Teachers of the Year for webA surprise was in store for Royal Oak High School Social Studies Teacher Colin Campbell who was named Royal Oak Schools High School Teacher of the Year! He attended an assembly with the entire school where it was announced that he had been named as the recipient. "Colin stepped up when he didn't have to," said ROHS Principal Sharida Lewis. "He has the capacity to connect with his students and impart his subject matter beautifully. It was an easy choice," she said.

At the middle school, Band Teacher Tim Foreman was talked up by colleague Tom Pavlovich before receiving his honor. Tim was not only surprised by the recognition, but he was also surprised by family members in attendance for the presentation. "I am humbled and honored to be named the 2022-23 Royal Oak Middle School Teacher of the Year. I would like to thank the Royal Oak staff for being so supportive as I have moved through several different roles, in and out of the classroom, over the course of my career. I wouldn't be the teacher I am without them. I would also like to thank my students and their families, both past and present, for making teaching fun, exciting, and rewarding," he said.

At Northwood Elementary School, Kindergarten Teacher Kendra Bath was recognized as Elementary Teacher of the Year. Superintendent Fitzpatrick and Principal Knipper entered Bath's classroom and made the announcement in front of her class. "Kendra is a very deserving teacher to receive this recognition," said Knipper. "We are so lucky to have her at Northwood, and it was very fun surprising her with this great honor." In attendance for the celebration were Bath's family which included her son, daughter, husband, and parents.

The teachers will attend the Oakland County Outstanding Teacher of the Year dinner this spring. They will be in attendance among other nominated teachers from the area. That evening an elementary, middle/junior high, and high school teacher from Oakland County will be named as the County winner. Winners receive a cash prize and an invitation to a signature recognition event at Oakland Schools.
