The Latest In The Superintendent Search

The Royal Oak Schools Board of Education has officially begun the process of hiring a new superintendent. As part of this important work, the Board gathered input from the community regarding the qualities, experiences, and skills desired in the next district leader. Community input sessions were held on April 23, 2025, and an online survey remained open through April 11, 2025, inviting feedback from families, staff, and residents.

The Board is partnering with the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) to support the superintendent search. MASB is a statewide organization that provides services and guidance to school boards across Michigan.

The selected candidate is expected to begin their role on July 1, 2025.

Timeline for Superintendent Search

The Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) is guiding the Royal Oak Schools Board of Education in the search for a new superintendent. According to their search timeline released on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, the MASB plans to have a new superintendent at Royal Oak Schools seated by July 1.

The job posting closed at 4 p.m. on May 1, 2025, and the Board reviewed a strong pool of 25 candidates at a special meeting on May 9, 2025, which was open to the public. Following the meeting, four highly qualified candidates were invited to the first round of interviews.

First-round interviews are scheduled for May 13 and 14. Final candidates will visit and tour Royal Oak Schools on May 16. There will be an open house to meet the candidates from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. at 800 DeVillen in the board room of the Administrative Offices. The second and final round of interviews will begin at 5 p.m. 

These interviews are open to the public. They will not be livestreamed or recorded.
