CALENDAR

WELCOME

Dear Royal Oak Schools Families,
It has been an eventful few weeks with all of the weather and related issues. We are very happy to have everyone back in school now!

The district’s Long Range Planning Committee met on February 15, where we took a look at a first draft of the goals, action plans, and strategies thus far. This is our first attempt at collecting ideas and feedback from multiple meetings and Thought Exchanges, and to start to organize them under four main goal areas:

Goal Area 1: Student Achievement & Growth (curriculum & instruction)
Goal Area 2: Community
Goal Area 3: Resources (financial & facility-based)
Goal Area 4: Human Resources
New Area - addressing health & wellbeing
At this meeting, we also explored the responses from the most recent district-wide Thought Exchange. We had 618 participants, exploring 299 different thoughts, and interacting with those thoughts 14,052 times! Of the participants, 16% were staff members and 82% were parents/guardians. That is a great return and we have gained a lot of insight on various topics including curriculum, staff training, CTE (Career & Technical Education), early childhood offerings, communication, and more. This feedback will continue to be considered throughout the process.

The next whole group meeting is Tuesday, April 18, 6:00-8:00 PM at the District Administrative Offices and all are welcome. At this meeting, we will review and discuss the next set of draft documents, and begin to explore a district mission and vision. In the meantime, other groups and staff leaders, and teams will be working with the plans to best reflect our goals for the future of Royal Oak Schools.

- Mary Beth Fitzpatrick, Superintendent Royal Oak Schools
