Royal Oak Schools announces the promotion of Dr. Jason Parrott as Supervisor of Special Education and Jeanette McLeod as Principal of Oak Ridge Elementary for the 2026-2027 school year. Both longtime members of the Royal Oak Schools family will continue serving students, staff, and families in their new leadership roles.

Royal Oak Schools welcomes Stephan Henning as Principal of Keller Elementary and Kristin Szymanski as Principal of Upton Elementary for the 2026-2027 school year. We also thank retiring principals Marcie Dryden and John Gryzwack for their dedicated service.

Congratulations to Michael Betman, longtime ROMS counselor and student advocate, on receiving the 2026 Terry Hood Lifetime Achievement Award for his decades of dedication and impact on students, schools, and the counseling profession.

Seventh grader Adriana Alexander of Royal Oak Middle School earned two “Best of Show” awards at the 58th Michigan Student Film Festival, ranking among more than 460 statewide entries. Her films Fish for the Future and If the Detroit River Could Sing were showcased at the Detroit Institute of Arts, highlighting her powerful storytelling and focus on environmental and community themes.
