The cities and school districts of Royal Oak and Berkley held the 6th annual “A Day On, Not a Day Off" event to honor and remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, January 16, 2023.

The community came together with hundreds of donations for area charitable organizations. They filled bins and stacked items to be delivered to the Judson Center, First United Methodist Church, Redford Brightmoor Initiative, and Cass Community Social Services.

The event kicked off with a freedom walk through a Berkley suburb that ended back at the high school. Families, community members, and local government officials participated in service projects at Berkley High School, which included donation sorting, blanket making for those in need, and card making for Veterans and first responders.

An excellent program was produced with messages from Cornelius Godfrey, Oakland Schools Diversity and Equity Consultant, performances by Berkley Schools student choirs, and students sharing their thoughts on MLK Day from Royal Oak and Berkley schools student diversity groups, plus much more.
