Royal Oak Schools Hires DEI Coordinator

Royal Oak, Mich. - Royal Oak Schools today announced the hiring of Dr. Kimberly Martin as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator. Martin is a talented administrator and diversity, equity, and inclusion specialist with over 25 years of experience in higher education and student affairs. She is also a dedicated social justice advocate and diversity consultant that is committed to issues of disparity and addressing them.

Martin will collaborate with district and county colleagues to provide strategic leadership for developing and maintaining DEI plans and policies for Royal Oak Schools. In addition, she will work with all stakeholders to ensure that opportunities for learning are available to every student without barriers to learning or growth.

"We are excited to have Dr. Martin join our Royal Oak Schools team," said Royal Oak Schools Superintendent, Mary Beth Fitzpatrick. "She brings a wealth of knowledge and we look forward to learning from her. She is passionate about this work, and is eager to foster a full sense of belonging."

Dr. Martin holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, a master's of Business Administration from Clark-Atlanta University, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education leadership from Oakland University. Over her career, Dr. Martin has served in several capacities related to multiculturalism and diversity, including the Assistant Dean of Students at Purdue University, the coordinator for diversity and inclusion at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, and the director of the Cultural Center at the University of Louisville. Most recently she served as the Director of Multicultural Programs at Missouri State University. Previously, Martin served on both university-wide and departmental diversity committees that address issues of bias in the retention and recruitment processes in higher education.

Dr. Martin joins Royal Oak Schools on June 1, 2021.
