Royal Oak High School has a partnership with a school in Tuttlingen, Germany, for a student exchange program. Every two years, each school sends a group of students to the other school. This fall, ROHS hosted 18 German students and two teachers who arrived in October and left Michigan mid-November. The students stayed with host families. Addams ECC Supervisor Danielle Truesdell was one of the host families.
"Sharing our home with a young adult from another country was a great experience for all of us. We have a freshman and junior at ROHS, and it was interesting to see the similarities among the teenagers. We enjoyed learning about authentic German traditions and sharing a few of our own!"
During the visit to the U.S., students and staff took a field trip to the Wright Museum, Mexican Town, and the Detroit Zoo, among other places.
ROHS students will travel to Germany in June 2023 and stay with their partners' families.
